Museum artefacts with a 3D twist

For a few years now, we’ve been able to download and 3D print replicas of priceless artefacts from the likes of the British Museum, New York’s Metropolitan Museum and the Smithsonian Institution. But it’s not just the big hitters who have embraced the technology. Take, for example, the collaboration between Lincoln’s Collection Museum and artist Oliver Laric. The idea is that we're free to do whatever we want with them – from 3D printing an accurate replica, to using the scans as a departure for new works, as seen in this transparent 3D print of an 18th-century marble statue of Mercury.
